A live-data comparison like Forest River Shasta-Sst17lb vs Grand Design Imagine gives recreational vehicles buyers a more realistic picture than spec sheets alone — the prices shown here reflect actual dealer asking prices, not MSRP. When evaluating recreational vehicles at this price point, experienced buyers typically weigh tow vehicle compatibility, slide-out count, floorplan layout, and fresh/gray water capacity alongside the headline number. The Forest River Shasta-Sst17lb currently carries the lower median asking price, which compounds meaningfully over a 48-to-72-month financing term — even a modest gap per month adds up to hundreds of dollars by payoff. Broader selection from the Grand Design Imagine side gives buyers more negotiating room and reduces the chance of settling on a unit that's slightly off on color, trim, or mileage. Request a dealer walkthrough that covers the roof seams, slideout seals, and holding-tank systems — issues in those areas are the most common source of expensive post-purchase repairs on recreational vehicles. Factor in campground fees, insurance, and seasonal storage costs when comparing total ownership cost between these two models, since those ongoing expenses often exceed the monthly payment difference.
